Module 11: Building a Data Portfolio

Learning Objectives
  • Choose portfolio projects that show the full analysis workflow
  • Document a project clearly on GitHub or a similar platform
  • Use public and remote-friendly datasets to practice realistically

For most entry-level data roles, especially remote positions open to applicants anywhere in the world, a portfolio of real, well-documented projects matters more than certificates alone. A strong project shows the complete workflow: a clearly stated question, the data source, cleaning steps, analysis, a visualization, and a conclusion with a recommendation, not just a chart with no context. You will learn to use public datasets, such as those from Kaggle, government open-data portals, or international organizations like the World Bank, which publishes free country-level economic and development data useful for African-market case studies, and how to write a README that explains your project clearly to a recruiter skimming it in under two minutes.
