Module 7: Python for Data Analysis
- Load and explore a dataset using pandas DataFrames
- Filter, group, and aggregate data in Python
- Understand when Python is a better tool than a spreadsheet
Python has become the most widely used programming language for data work, largely because of the pandas library, which organizes data into a DataFrame, a table-like structure similar to a spreadsheet but scriptable and repeatable. You will learn to load a CSV file with pandas, inspect it with .head() and .describe(), filter rows with conditions, and group and aggregate data with .groupby(), the Python equivalent of a pivot table. Unlike a spreadsheet, a Python script can be re-run on tomorrow's data in seconds and comfortably handles millions of rows, which is why it becomes the preferred tool once a dataset grows beyond what Excel can process smoothly or once the same analysis needs to be repeated regularly.
1. The pandas .groupby() method is most similar in purpose to which spreadsheet feature?
2. In pandas, which structure represents a table of data with rows and columns?
3. A key advantage of a Python script over a manual spreadsheet process is that it:
