Module 4: Defining Product Vision & Strategy

Learning Objectives
  • Write a clear, compelling product vision statement
  • Connect product strategy to broader business goals
  • Communicate strategy so it guides day-to-day decisions

A product vision is a short, inspiring statement of the future the product is working toward, answering "why does this product need to exist, and what does success eventually look like?" rather than listing specific features. Strategy sits between vision and execution: it's the set of bets a team makes about which problems, segments, and approaches will get them from today toward that vision, given limited time and resources. A strategy is only useful if it actually shapes day-to-day decisions; if a team can't explain why they're building feature A instead of feature B by pointing back to the strategy, the strategy isn't doing its job. You will practice writing both a vision statement and a strategy that clearly traces back to measurable business goals, like revenue, retention, or market share.
