Module 2: Planning Your Content: Scripts, Storyboards & Shot Lists

Learning Objectives
  • Write a simple script or outline before filming
  • Create a shot list to plan footage in advance
  • Craft an opening hook that keeps viewers watching

Every strong video starts before the camera turns on. A script or outline keeps you on message, while a shot list — a simple checklist of every shot you need (wide, medium, close-up, cutaways) — prevents wasted time re-filming later. Because most platforms treat average watch time as a ranking signal, the first 3-5 seconds (the 'hook') matter enormously: a clear question, bold statement, or visual surprise keeps viewers from scrolling away. Planning in advance also makes editing dramatically faster, since you already know which shots connect to which story beats.
